Former Pirelli World Challenge GTA class champion Martin Fuentes will return to series competition this year, as part of a new effort with Squadra Corse Garage Italia Americas.

The team, headed up by Lapo Elkann and Ronnie Vogel, will enter a Ferrari 488 GT3 for the entire season, with Caesar Bacarella joining Fuentes for the SprintX races.

It will mark Fuentes’ debut in a Ferrari 488 GT3, having won the 2016 GTA title in a Scuderia Corsa-prepared Ferrari 458 Italia GT3.

“I’m very excited to be part of this team in one of the world’s best GT Championship to hand with Squadra Corse Garage Italia Americas and Hublot, racing with a car as special as only a Ferrari can be,” Fuentes said.

The brand-new car, featuring a livery sharing the colors of the Mexican and Italian flags, recently completed a shakedown at Fiorano.

Elkann, the founder and creative director of Garage Italia, said he’s looking forward to the new challenge.

“My passion for competition and speed has always been a part of my life and I am excited to the idea that a Ferrari with a livery branded by Garage Italia Style Center’s designers will run in such a prestigious championship,” he said.

“I am sure that drivers Martin Fuentes and Caesar Bacarella will hold the colors of Italy, Mexico and USA up high all over the world.”
