Reigning FIA World Endurance Champion Marc Lieb will sub for Joerg Bergmeister for Wright Motorsports in next weekend’s Pirelli World Challenge SprintX round at Lime Rock Park, the team announced on Saturday.

Lieb will team with Patrick Long in the No. 58 Porsche 911 GT3 R, due to Bergmeister taking part in the Nürburgring 24, which falls on the same weekend.

It will mark the German driver’s PWC debut, and second start in Porsche’s latest-generation GT3 contender after teaming with Long, Porsche Junior Matt Campbell and David Calvert-Jones for a second place overall finish in February’s Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour.

“I am really looking forward to joining Patrick and Wright Motorsports at Lime Rock,” Lieb said. “The Pirelli World Challenge is a tough championship and the new SprintX format is very interesting.

“I can’t remember the last time I’ve driven a race less than six hours, so for me coming from the long races it will be a pure sprint and to do it at a challenging little track like Lime Rock, it will be even better.”

Bergmeister will return as Long’s co-driver for the two remaining SprintX rounds at Utah and Circuit of The Americas.

“It’s a seamless change welcoming Marc on board for Lime Rock,” Long said. “He knows the circuit and the car, so we are very lucky to have him while Jörg is out on Nürburgring 24 duty.”

“Marc is one of the first people I met when I arrived at Porsche. He has been a great mentor and friend of mine. We drove together this year at Bathurst, had a great time and achieved a fantastic result.”

While having technically retired from driving, Lieb will also serve as Porsche’s reserve driver for the 24 Hours of Le Mans next month.
