Rovera Joins Iron Lynx Ferrari Lineup for Nürburgring

24 Hours of Le Mans GTE-Am class winner Alessio Rovera will join Iron Lynx’s Pro-class Ferrari lineup for next weekend’s Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup round at the Nürburgring, in place of the injured Davide Rigon.

Ferrari stated on Friday that Rigon’s ongoing recovery from injuries sustained a massive four-car accident at the TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa has ruled him out of the penultimate Endurance Cup race on the five-round schedule.

The Italian will be replaced by his compatriot Rovera, who recently won the Le Mans GTE-Am race driving an AF Corse-run Ferrari 488 GTE Evo.

26-year-old Rovera, who clinched the Italian GT Endurance title last year, made his GTWC Europe debut at Spa last month driving a Ferrari in the Pro-Am ranks.

He is now set to make his Endurance Cup Pro-category debut alongside Callum Ilott and Antonio Fuoco in the No. 71 Iron Lynx Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020.

Rigon’s absence from the penultimate round of the Endurance Cup season comes after the 35-year-old was ruled out of his GTE-Pro drive at Le Mans on medical grounds.

A statement from Ferrari updating Rigon’s status read: “His recovery from the accident at the 24 Hours of Spa is progressing smoothly, but doctors have advised the Italian driver to miss this event as well.”

Iron Lynx’s No. 51 crew of Alessandro Pier Guidi, Come Ledogar and Nicklas Nielsen – one of Rovera’s co-drivers at Le Mans – currently lead the Endurance Cup standings following their victory at Spa.
