Martin Bounces Back for Race 2 Win at Rennsport

Will Martin rebounded from adversity in Race 1 to take a commanding victory in the second and final Porsche Deluxe Carrera Cup North America race of the weekend at Porsche Rennsport Reunion 7.

Martin, in the No. 9 JDX Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car, led from pole over the No. 53 Kellymoss Porsche of Riley Dickinson, who collided with the Englishman in the opening stages of the first 40-minute race on Sunday.

That was not the case in Sunday afternoon’s curtain-closer at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, which saw a controlling run from Martin, who won by 2.169 seconds over Dickinson.

It marked his victory of the season following wins at both Long Beach and Watkins Glen International.

Race 1 winner Tom Sargent completed the overall and Pro class podium in third, having passed the No. 98 JDX Porsche of Alex Sedgwick for the final podium position in the early laps of the 40-minute contest.

Sedgwick faded to tenth at the line, promoting Dan Clarke to fourth and Ryan Hardley completing the top-five, with Jimmy Llibre in sixth.

Efrin Castro, who was on pace to take a sweep of the weekend in category, spun out of the lead of Pro-Am in the closing minutes, handing the class win to PJ Hyett in the No. 23 Kellymoss Porsche in a dramatic final five minutes.

Scott Noble, meanwhile, continued to close the Am class points gap to leader Mark Kvamme with victory on Sunday in another MDK Motorsports 1-2 finish.

Kvamme provisionally leads over Noble by just seven points heading into next month’s title-decider at Circuit of The Americas, supporting Formula 1.
