Former American Le Mans Series class champion Jon Field will make his return to top-level IMSA-sanctioned racing next year as part of Inter Europol Competition’s lineup in the LMP2 class.

Field, 69, the former team owner of Intersport Racing, will drive the Polish squad’s Oreca 07 Gibson alongside reigning class champion Tom Dillmann for the entire seven-round season.

Silver-rated Bijoy Garg will make the move from United Autosports to Inter Europol for the Michelin Endurance Cup races, with Antonio Felix da Costa completing the lineup for next month’s Rolex 24 at Daytona.

While not having been active in IMSA competition since 2011, Field made his return to prototype racing in Radical Cup North America several years ago and also took part in HSR Prototype Challenge presented by IMSA this season.

“I’m thrilled to be back racing in the IMSA championship once again although it’s changed a bit since I last raced in the series,” said Field.

“I am pleased to be racing with Inter Europol Competition too. They have a strong pedigree in LMP2 racing, so I feel I am in good hands with them and my co-drivers.

“Joining the team off the back of their IMSA LMP2 championship win last season, I feel we have a good package to go for that championship win once again. I can’t wait to get started at Daytona.”

Inter Europol teamed up with PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports to win the 2024 LMP2 title with Dillmann and Nick Boulle, with the two teams set to field independent entries next year. Inter Europol has set up a new U.S. outpost in Indianapolis for the effort.

“Together, with the team, we discovered the IMSA series and its various nuances last season, and we can start in Daytona with a great deal more knowledge than last year,” said Dillmann. “With new teammates, the goal remains the same; to win a second championship.”

Da Costa, meanwhile, returns to the cockpit of a prototype for the first time since the 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship finale in Bahrain after Porsche made the decision for the 33-year-old to fully focus on his factory driver duties in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

“I’m very happy to get myself a shot at the Daytona 24 Hours,” Da Costa said. “Especially with the championship-winning team from IMSA last year.

“Inter Europol has accomplished a lot in the last few years, so it’s the perfect place for me to come back into the LMP2 class, and I can’t wait to get started and work with the whole team and my teammates.”

He has one previous Daytona appearance to his name, dating back to when he drove a Jackie Chan DC Racing Oreca alongside Alex Brundle, Ferdinand Habsburg and Ho-Pin Tung in 2018.
