IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship regular Alec Udell has been added to the lineup for the Steller Motorsport Corvette team for next week’s GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup round at the Nürburgring.

Udell, who races for DXDT Racing in the WeatherTech Championship, will share Steller’s No. 24 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R with Lorcan Hanafin and Daniel Ali for the three-hour race that marks the fourth round on the GTWC Europe Endurance Cup schedule.

The 29-year-old Texan driver effectively fills the seat vacated by Matisse Lismont, who split with Steller in acrimonious circumstances last month.

Udell is no stranger to success in Corvette GT3 machinery, having scored eight consecutive Pro class wins in GT World Challenge America powered by AWS last season for DXDT before switching to the WeatherTech Championship for this season together with the team.

“I’m excited to be joining the Steller Motorsport squad at the Nürburgring in GT World Challenge Europe,” said Udell. “The team has a long history of success and I will work hard to add to the positive results they’ve had already this season with the Z06 GT3.R.

“Speaking with the Corvette engineers, they’ve expressed how quickly the team has gotten up to speed with the platform, and I know how capable Lorcan and Daniel are behind the wheel.

“I can’t wait to get back to the Nürburgring with a great car and a great team.”

Steller has suffered a difficult GTWC Europe season so far, with a best finish of 19th in the Endurance Cup opener at Paul Ricard with Hanafin, Lismont and Kiern Jewiss.

Team manager Max Daymond said he hopes Udell’s arrival for next week’s Nürburgring race will herald an upturn in form for the British outfit.

“We’re really pleased to welcome Alec to the Steller fold and we’re confident that he’ll be an excellent addition to the team,” commented Daymond.

“His CV speaks for itself; he’s a proven driver with race and championship-winning experience, and he brings a wealth of Corvette experience with him, too, which will be extremely valuable.

“As a team, I think we’ve done a good job of learning the car this year, and while there were always going to be challenges, we’ve shown the potential we have.

“With Alec on board, we’re confident that we’ll unlock more of that potential at the Nürburgring.”
