Bryan Herta Autosport has announced plans to expand into the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship next year with a full season LMP2 effort.

The multi-time championship-winning Michelin Pilot Challenge TCR organization, strongly linked with Hyundai, will step up to the WeatherTech Championship for the first time.

According to a team statement, the expansion to LMP2 represents the “natural progression of the team’s growth trajectory” that will be “providing new challenges” for its mechanics and other crew to get experienced in the top series.

The move comes amid Hyundai’s sister brand Genesis announcing plans to enter the WeatherTech Championship GTP class beginning in 2027.

Genesis is yet to announce its North American partner team for the GMR-001, which will initially debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship next year with a full factory team.

“Our entry into the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is vital for building our foundation for the future,” said co-owner and team president Bryan Herta.

“The LMP2 platform gives us the opportunity to develop our personnel and systems in a way that prepares us to compete at the highest level. It’s the next logical step for our organization, and one that we’ve been planning for some time.”

“We’re incredibly excited to take this leap forward while continuing our championship-winning efforts in the Michelin Pilot Challenge with Hyundai.

“We have accepted this new challenge with the clear objective to prepare ourselves with the focus on growth and learning, but I am excited to see how the program has come together and I think we can also hope to achieve our share of success on track as well.”

Genesis joined forces with LMP2 squad IDEC Sport for its WEC ‘trajectory’ program in this year’s European Le Mans Series season, which has helped get some of its own mechanics and earmarked drivers up to speed in top-level endurance racing.

BHA’s move to LMP2 in the WeatherTech Championship is believed to not be coincidental.

Pratt Miller Motorsports, which has been another team vying for the Genesis WeatherTech Championship program, made its LMP2 debut this year; however, Sportscar365 understands that a deal with the Korean manufacturer appears to no longer be in the cards.

Further details about BHA’s 2026 LMP2 program, including partners and driver lineup, will be revealed in the coming weeks.

The program will debut at the IMSA-sanctioned test at Daytona International Speedway in November.
