The Racing Team Turkey by TF Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R that topped the LMGT3 times in first qualifying for the 24 Hours of Le Mans has been disqualified after failing post-session scrutineering.
Peter Dempsey had set a 3:55.744 to top the LMGT3 leaderboard by two-tenths of a second in the No. 34 Corvette, however it will now start Saturday’s race at the back of the grid after the car’s rear diffuser strake height was found to have breached regulations having suffered excessive wear.
A Corvette Racing spokesperson said: “Corvette Racing engineers are evaluating the other three Corvette entries in order to mitigate and keep all four cars in compliance for the event.”
The disqualification caps a tough day for the Corvette crews as the other three cars all failed to make the cut for Hyperpole 1.
The No. 34 machine’s disqualification leaves it starting 25th while the best placed Corvette will be the No. 33 TF Sport entry in 17th.
The penalty means the No. 62 Team Qatar by Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo has now secured an unexpected spot in Thursday’s Hyperpole 1 session having initially been 16th.
