Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie competitor PROSport Racing has aligned with Mercedes-AMG machinery, while also undergoing a change in the company structure, with team principal Chris Esser stepping down ahead of next year.
The German outfit, which campaigned Aston Martin Vantage GT3 and GT4 machinery this past season, will switch its focus back to Mercedes-AMG, fielding GT3 and GT4-spec versions of the car next year.
While set to discontinue its participation with the Vantage GT4, it will, however, continue to field Vantage GT3son the Nordschleife.
It comes amid the soon-to-be-announced appointment of a new team principal.
“As I have already announced several times, I will be handing over the team leadership to a younger generation and will only be available as an advisor in the future,” said Esser.
“We will be able to announce the new team principal in the coming weeks. There will also be changes in the company structure, and this makes us very optimistic about the future.”
The team will compete with the Mercedes-AMG GT4 in both NLS and and the GT Winter Series.
Its new Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo, which is already in its workshop in Wiesemscheid, marks a return to the brand, having won the overall GT3 class title in 24H Series competition with the brand in 2018.
Specific plans for the car are currently being evaluated. “We are open to sensible programs with this car,” Esser said.
“The decision to switch to AMG wasn’t difficult for us and, in a way, makes perfect sense. Over the years, we’ve become very familiar with AMG engines through our work with Aston Martin, and the vehicle concepts are also very similar.
“We’re really looking forward to racing the AMG cars.”
