The second season of McLaren Trophy America is set to get underway this weekend at Sonoma Raceway, with a total of 14 McLaren Artura Trophy EVO cars entered.
The single-make series returns to the site of its North American debut last year, which provided highly competitive racing on the Northern California circuit.
RWE Motorsports’ James Li, who won the inaugural Pro class title with Casey Dennis, returns for a title defense, but this time with British racer Sam Neser.
Li and Neser will do battle with Forte Racing’s returning duo Patrick Liddy and Tanner Harvey, who step up to the Pro class after success in the Pro-Am ranks.
It is one of four entries fielded by the Shane Seneviratne-owned squad, which includes the returning Kevin Madsen and Neil Langberg in the RP by Forte McLaren.
Forte will also field 2025 Pro class runner-up Cooper Broll for the first time, as a solo entry, along with a new entry for Paul Holton and Kaia Teo.
While TechSport Racing’s Colin Harrison returns, Orlando Motorsports Services has three McLarens confirmed for Sonoma, for Scott and Stephen Sorbaro and Fabian Grecoo, all driving solo.
Reigning Teams’ Tropy champion GMG Racing will again field a two-car effort, featuring Deniz Teoman and Jeff Cook (No. 5) and Randy Highland and John Capestro-Dubets (No. 7).
Sports car racing legend Johnny O’Connell will be part of Flying Lizard Motorsports’ entry alongside co-driver Philip Ploskas, while title-winning British squad Greystone GT will field a car for Ryan James and Oliver Webb.
RAFA Racing Team, another operation that has competed in McLaren Trophy Europe, will have an entry for Michael Steeves and Keegan Massey.
A total of three test sessions are on tap between Wednesday and Thursday, with opening practice on tap for Thursday afternoon, and an additional practice set for Friday morning.
Qualifying is set for Saturday morning before Race 1 at 3:05 p.m. PST/6:05 p.m. PST and Race 2 on Sunday at 9:40 a.m. PST/12:40 p.m. EST.
Both 50-minute races will be streamed live on SRO and McLaren’s YouTube channels.
