Former Super2 front-runner and Bathurst 1000 endurance driver Tyler Everingham will turn his attention to Motorcraft Mustang Cup Australia.

The 25-year-old will saddle up in the all-new, one-make Dark Horse R class with RM Race Cars, joining the team’s now four-strong lineup that includes 2022 Aussie Racing Cars champion Josh Anderson, Josh Trappett and Keith Kassulke.

Everingham has been a leading driver in almost every racing category he has entered.

He won the 2018 V8 Touring Car title before stepping up to Super2 where he won his maiden Supercars race at Sandown. He was also awarded the prestigious Mike Cable Young Gun Award in 2019 after claiming sixth overall in his maiden Super2 season.

He has contested four Bathurst 1000s, with his best result coming in his last attempt in 2024 with Thomas Randle, finishing 11th.

Everingham will drive one of the Dark Horse Rs that RM Race Cars imported from overseas, the car last raced at Le Mans as part of the Mustang Challenge Invitational.

“I’m super excited to race in Mustang Cup this year,” he said. “To get this opportunity is huge, and I have to give a big thanks to Ford and RM Race Cars.

“I’m over the moon to get back to Philip Island. It’s definitely one of my favorite tracks, so I can’t wait to get stuck in.

“The things that really attracted me to the category is the fact that it’s a one make class. That brings a lot of interests because it’s a level playing field. Ultimately, the best driver should win.

“And being the very first time that we’ve seen this category here in Australia is going to be a privilege to be part of it.

“Everyone’s starting with a clean slate, so it should make it very close.

“You can already see how competitive the field is going to be just from the strength of the entries. There are front-running Supercars drivers there and it looks like a great class for young drivers to develop their skills against extremely high-level competition.”

The addition of Everingham adds another driver of profile to the bulging Mustang Cup pack that includes the Triple Eight-backed entry of Jack Perkins and Garry Rogers Motorsport trip of James Moffat, James Golding and Aaron Cameron.

The inaugural round of the Motorcraft Mustang Cup Australia will take place at Phillip Island this weekend as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries.
