New Motorcraft Mustang Cup Australia team GWR Australia has confirmed that Zoe Woods will make her debut in the category’s final round at Sandown Raceway in Victoria this weekend.
GWR Australia has taken delivery of a brand-new Mustang Dark Horse R, with experienced racer Woods to take the wheel in an expanded two-car GWR effort.
Woods will join Ben Kavich, who debuted in the last round at Sandown in September, with the 23-year-old set to sport the No. 210.
Woods has plenty of experience in national-level motorsport, including Toyota 86, Production Cars and GT4 Australia.
After testing a Dark Horse R at Queensland Raceway earlier this year, Woods and her father Rob, the owner of race team TekworkX, considered Mustang Cup as a place for her to race.
It wasn’t until her recent birthday that her family surprised her with the news that she would take a place on the Sandown grid.
“I was actually told by the family on my birthday that this had been arranged, so that was really cool to hear that it was all locked in,” she said.
“My first impression of driving the Mustang in testing was overwhelmingly positive, and I love the Sandown circuit – it is one of my favorites – so I can’t wait to get out there competitively.
“Our main objective at Sandown is to keep it clean and, above all, have fun. Driving a brand-new Mustang chassis will feel phenomenal and I can’t wait to press on with GWR and learn as much as I can throughout the weekend.
“Dad and Garth have been good mates for a long time, so it was a natural fit to make my Mustang Cup Australia debut with GWR.
“It’s been a roller coaster of a year for the family, so now we’ve got back into a rhythm and things have settled back down to normal, we are all very much looking forward to being trackside this weekend.”
Teaming up with GWR continues a long-standing association between GWR and the Woods family. Over ten years ago, Rob Woods was introduced to circuit racing via Walden’s team, and the families have remained close ever since.
The two GWR Australia drivers will face off against another strong field of entries for the final round of the Motorcraft Mustang Cup Australia, supporting the Shannons SpeedSeries at the famed Sandown Raceway track.
Practice kicks off this Friday ahead of qualifying and racing on both Saturday and Sunday.
