Porsche Carrera Cup North America will hit the streets for the second consecutive event this weekend at the Miami International Autodrome, in the first of two rounds supporting Formula 1.

A total of 20 Porsche 911 Cups are entered for Rounds 5 and 6 of the season in what will mark the IMSA-sanctioned single-make series’ fourth appearance at the Miami Gardens venue built around the Hard Rock Stadium.

The new-for-2026 combination of the Type-992.2 Porsche and Pirelli P Zero DHG has been off to a fast start, with series records smashed at both Sebring International Raceway and on the streets of Long Beach, the latter which was swept by Tom Sargent.

With Sargent, nor GMG Racing present this weekend, the championship battle in the Pro class will return to the early season fight seen at Sebring between Topp Racing’s Tyler Maxson and Kellymoss driver Aaron Jeansonne.

The two drivers are separated by just five points, with Carrera Cup North America rookie Callum Hedge, of JDX Racing, 14 further markers behind in third.

Hedge’s teammate Connor Bloum, is notably absent from this weekend’s action, as is John Capestro-Dubets, who started the season with GMG before parting ways with the team after Sebring before receiving a one-weekend lifeline at Kellymoss for Long Beach.

ACI Motorsports’ John Jodoin, however, makes his return after skipping the Southern California streets in the 12-strong Pro class.

Only two Pro-Am cars are entered, but six cars are expected in Masters, including Ruckus Racing’s Scott Blind, who is the only driver to return to defend his class victory from the 2025 races in Miami.

Of note, JTR Motorsports Engineering’s Rob Walker, who sits second in the Masters’ title race, behind Marco Cirone, is also absent.

Track action kicks off on Thursday evening with a 30-minute practice session before final practice and qualifying on Friday, Race 1 on Saturday at 2:50 p.m. EST and Race 2 set for Sunday at 11:10 a.m. EST.

Both 40-minute sprints will be streamed live on Peacock, as well as IMSA and Porsche Motorsport North America’s YouTube channels, featuring the IMSA Radio commentary team of Ryan Myrehn and Peter Mackay.

Pre-Event News & Notes:

***With Porsche Motorsport North America Selected Driver Tom Sargent on European Le Mans Series duty this weekend at Paul Ricard and Capestro-Dubets having departed the team prior to Long Beach, GMG will not have single entry on the Carrera Cup grid in Miami.

***Team owner/driver James Sofronas is still recovering from broken ribs sustained in a paddock incident at Sonoma Raceway while Kyle Washington remains suspended by IMSA following a post-race incident in the Ferrari Challenge North America season opener at The Thermal Club in March.

***Carrera Cup North America competitors are coming off a pair of caution-free races in Long Beach, which were both won by Sargent.

***The Miami International Autodrome sees limited use, so the home track advantage is less than other permanent road courses that have more daily access. Still, JDX’s Masters driver Kevin Stadtlander will be able to sleep in his own bed during the weekend, as he calls Miami home.

***As the driver championship heats up, so does the team championship. Currently, Topp Racing holds a one-point advantage over Kellymoss, both thanks to the early-season success of Maxson (Topp) and Jeansonne (Kellymoss).

***Miami marks the first of two Carrera Cup races supporting F1 this year, with series not scheduled to visit Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve this season, which was effectively replaced by Long Beach on the calendar. The F1 U.S. Grand Prix at Circuit of The Americas will again play host to the season finale in October.

***Porsche’s crossover success with F1 isn’t limited to Dan Gurney’s 1962 French Grand Prix victory. In 2015, current F1 driver Nico Hulkenberg teamed with Nick Tandy and Earl Bamber to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans in a Porsche 919 Hybrid. Hulkenberg’s win made him the first active F1 driver to win at Le Mans since 1991.
