DXDT Racing’s participation in this weekend’s StubHub Monterey SportsCar Championship at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca is in jeopardy following a “fully involved fire” in the team’s transporter.

Program manager Bryan Sellers confirmed to Sportscar365 that the rig, carrying its Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R and support equipment, sustained a fire this morning on a I-5 north of Bakersfield, Calif., which is believed to have been started by an axle failure.

Sellers said he has no further information at this time.

“En route to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for this weekend’s StubHub Monterey SportsCar Championship, a mechanical incident resulted in a fully involved fire affecting the DXDT Racing transporter on I-5 north of Bakersfield,” a statement provided to Sportscar365 read.

“No injuries were reported, and no other vehicles were involved. The status of the No. 36 DXDT Racing Corvette Z06 GT3.R is currently unknown.

“DXDT Racing is grateful to first responders for their swift response. There is no additional information available at this time. Updates will be provided as they become available.”

Robert Wickens and Mason Filippi are due to take part in this weekend’s two-hour and 40-minute race in the team’s GTD class entry, following Wickens’ first start of the season two weeks ago on the streets of Long Beach, where he started from class pole.

DXDT is the second sports car racing team to face a transporter fire in as many weeks as BSI Racing’s transporter caught fire last week en route to the SRO America event at Circuit of The Americas.
