The second-placed finishing ABT Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2’s result from the Nürburgring 24 has been put into jeopardy after the car reportedly failed post-race technical inspection.
Confirmed in a statement by race organizer ADAC on Thursday, nearly two weeks after the Eifel endurance classic, the official results of the event are still not available due to “irregularities” discovered on the No. 84 Lamborghini that was driven by Mirko Bortolotti, Marco Mapelli and Luca Engstler.
The car, which scored pole, is believed to have potentially exceeded the power limit enforced by the Balance of Performance when the car was tested on a dyno post-race, alongside five other cars from the SP9 class.
“During a routine inspection of six GT3 cars (SP9 class), irregularities were discovered on the No. 84 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 of Team Abt,” the statement from ADAC read.
“Inspections of the other five cars from Aston Martin, BMW, Ford, Mercedes-AMG, and Porsche, including tests on a rolling road dynamometer for performance measurement, revealed no issues in the days following the event.
“The technical commissioners’ report has been submitted to the stewards, who will meet in the coming days and give team representatives the opportunity to comment on the incident. Until then, the race result remains provisional.”
Should the Lamborghini lose its second place, it would promote the No. 34 Walkenhorst Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo to a runner-up result, ahead of the No. 99 ROWE Racing BMW M4 GT3 EVO, which was provisionally classified in fourth.
