Peugeot Confirms Shwartzman for 2027 Season

Peugeot has confirmed that Robert Shwartzman will join its FIA World Endurance Championship driver roster for the 2027 campaign.

As reported by Sportscar365 last month, Russian-Israeli driver Shwartzman returns to the WEC with Peugeot after two seasons away, having last raced in the Hypercar class in 2024 as part of the satellite AF Corse Ferrari lineup.

He ended a long-standing relationship with Ferrari to take up the chance to race in the NTT IndyCar Series with Prema Racing, securing pole position for the Indianapolis 500 on his and the team’s debut at the famed event.

However, Prema’s withdrawal from IndyCar at the end of the year amid its ownership upheaval left Shwartzman as a free agent.

The 26-year-old’s arrival at Peugeot comes as Stoffel Vandoorne and Malthe Jakobsen get set to depart the marque at the end of the season, while Theo Pourchaire is expected to step down as he shifts his focus to his Formula E duties with sister brand Opel.

Peugeot stated that Shwartzman will get behind the wheel of the 9X8 for “several test sessions” over the course of the remainder of the year ahead of the 2027 season.

“I’m extremely happy to be returning to the FIA World Endurance Championship after my time racing in the United States,” commented Shwartzman.

“Endurance racing is something I’ve really missed over the past two seasons, and I’m thrilled to be joining Team Peugeot TotalEnergies.

“From my very first discussions with the team, I felt genuinely welcomed and immediately part of the project, within a highly professional and ambitious environment.

“The 2027 program is particularly exciting, and I can’t wait to contribute to this new chapter and help write the next stages of the story together.”

Peugeot team principal Emmanuel Esnault described Shwartmzan as “unquestionably one of the most promising talents of his generation” adding “his natural speed, adaptability and maturity make him an ideal fit for our project.

He continued: “He is already fully involved in the preparation of our 2027 program and will play an important role in the team’s future.

“We greatly appreciate the trust he has placed in us by joining the Peugeot Sport endurance program and sharing our ambitions.

“We are committed to building a strong relationship with Robert, both on and off track, with the ambition of writing a successful new chapter together and achieving many future successes.”

Alongside Shwartzman, Peugeot is set to promote current reserve driver Alex Quinn to a race seat, while Jean-Eric Vergne is also poised to return to the French marque’s race line-up after spending the 2026 season focusing on his Formula E campaign.
