Roar Before 24 Friday Notebook

***Starworks Motorsport has added Enrique Bernoldi to its No. 8 PC car, alongside Mirco Schultis, Renger van der Zande, Mike Hedlund and Alex Popow. Bernoldi, a former Formula 1 and IndyCar driver, would make his Rolex 24 at Daytona debut if he is later confirmed for the race.

***Jack Hawksworth should have a reduced role with RSR Racing this season, and right now is only confirmed for the Rolex 24 and Petit Le Mans. Hawksworth told Sportscar365 he expects his IndyCar commitments to take precedence, and will have a busier than planned testing schedule.

***Dalton Sargeant will not test or race in the No. 38 Performance Tech Motorsports Oreca FLM09 as originally planned. The 16-year-old wrote on Twitter that he couldn’t get a license due to his age. Of note, PC saw two 17-year-olds, Miles Maroney and James Kovacic, race in the 2011 American Le Mans Series season, with Maroney the youngest driver in that series’ history. Sergeant was listed to drive alongside David Ostella, James French and Jerome Mee for this weekend’s test.

***Derek DeBoer is the first driver listed to test the second TRG-AMR Aston Martin Vantage GT3, the No. 009 entry in GTD. The team is yet to confirm any drivers for that entry for the race itself.

***Extreme Speed Motorsports has officially confirmed a team name change to Tequila Patron ESM for 2015. However, neither of the new HPD ARX-04bs are in livery for this weekend’s test, and for good reasoning: the team spent the morning portion of the day building up the new second chassis.

***One of the two BMW Team RLL Z4 GTEs that ran in 2013-2014 has been retired to BMW Classics Group, which will be used for show car displays, hot laps, etc. Another will be used as a spare car. Meanwhile Marc VDS expects to use the BMW test car in the European Le Mans Series.

***As for the current Z4 GTEs, the team confirmed Friday that it will launch a new livery at Sebring International Raceway rather than at Daytona, which will commemorate the 40th anniversary of BMW Motorsport’s first win in North America.

***Patrick Long has been confirmed to Team Falken Tire for Daytona, Sebring and Petit Le Mans. “Derrick Walker of Walker Racing has been a hero of mine since growing up watching the Indy 500, so to work alongside that organization in conjunction with a successful and progressive tire company like Falken is really cool,” he said.

***Guy Cosmo’s new crowdfunding venture, First Gear Project, will be shut down on Jan. 15. The venture worked to create several racing endeavors over the 2014 race season.
