Matteo Malucelli, driver of the No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 458 Italia, who was involved in Saturday’s horrific accident at the Rolex 24, was released from the hospital Sunday.

The Italian driver spent the night at Halifax Health-Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Fla. for observation. While no further information has been released, it’s understood that Malucelli escaped serious injuries.

During his overnight stay, Malucelli was visited by fellow Ferrari drivers Gianmaria Bruni, Olivier Beretta and Davide Rigon, along with team principal Giuseppe Risi.

Memo Gidley, meanwhile, remains in the hospital and will undergo surgery to repair a fracture in his back. The GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing driver had surgery on both his left leg and arm Saturday night.

Gidley’s DP car plowed into the back of the Risi Ferrari in the third hour of the race, causing extensive damage to both cars and resulting in a red flag of more than one hour.
