British GT Heads Overseas to Spa-Francorchamps

The British GT Championship crosses the English Channel this weekend for its only foreign round of the year, a two-hour race around Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps.

The field will once again be joined by the Competition102 GT4 European Series, boosting the field to 61 cars, with a mixture of GT3 and GT4 machinery.

ENTRY LIST: Spa-Francorchamps

Both Grasser Racing Team and Black Falcon will enter a pair of GT3 cars this weekend, in preparation for the Total 24 Hours of Spa later this month.

Grasser’s two Lamborghini Huracán GT3s are to be driven by Ronald Hoelling and Michele Beretta, and Hunter Abbott and Rolf Ineichen.

Meanwhile, Oliver Morley and Dani Juncadella, along with Abdulaziz Al Faisal and Miguel Toril, will race in the Black Falcon Mercedes-AMG GT3s.

However, several cars have also dropped off the entry list since the Silverstone 500. These include the FF Corse Ferrari 488 GT3, PFL Motorsport and Ultimate Speed Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3s, No. 56 Tolman Motorsport Ginetta G55 GT3, and third Barwell Motorsport Lamborghini.

Most of these cars were expected for Silverstone-only.

Amongst the British GT4 runners is the long-awaited addition of the second Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT4 for Beechdean AMR.

18-year-old Jamie Chadwick, who is reigning class champion, will race the No. 408 Aston Martin, and she will be joined by celebrity chef Paul Hollywood.

Furthermore, Stratton Motorsport returns to the series with its Aston Martin to be driven by Andrew Jarman and David Tinn, as the only all-Am lineup in a predominantly Pro-Am class.

The European GT4 field has increased since Silverstone, with the return of the Reiter Young Stars KTM X-Bow GT4s.

TF Sport continues to lead the way in the GT3 points standings, in its No. 17 Aston Martin for Jonny Adam and Derek Johnston. However, Barwell Motorsport’s Jon Minshaw and Phil Keen have moved into second following their Silverstone win.

Jack Bartholomew and Jordan Albert head the GT4 championship for Beechdean AMR, although Mike Robinson and Graham Johnston are just 3.5 points behind in their Optimum Motorsport Ginetta.

The two-day event gets started on Friday, July 8, while the two-hour race kicks off at 12:35 p.m. local time on Saturday.
