Haywood Named 24H Le Mans Grand Marshal

Motorsports legend Hurley Haywood will serve as Grand Marshal for this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, officials from the Automobile Club de l’Ouest announced on Monday.

The three-time Le Mans winner, regarded as one of the most successful endurance racing drivers in history, will lead the grid on its formation lap around the 8.5-mile Circuit de la Sarthe on Sat. June 15. 

Haywood, who has five overall victories in the Rolex 24 at Daytona and two at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, follows in the footsteps of Jacky Ickx, who served as Grand Marshal in last year’s race.

The longtime Porsche driver becomes the first American to serve in honorary race duties since Formula One boss Chase Carey served as the race starter in 2017.
