Eurasia Plotting Current-Gen Ligier LMP2 Entry for 2019-20

Eurasia Motorsport has announced plans to contest the 2019-20 Asian Le Mans Series with the Ligier JS P217 Gibson that it ran in last year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The team, which recently moved its headquarters to Sepang International Circuit, is the first to commit to the Asian championship with the newer type of LMP2 car which is being accepted as of next season.

Previous-generation LMP2 cars with free engine choice have continued to compete in Asia despite the global transition to a spec-based formula in 2017, but they will be soon joined by the current cars in a separate class.

Eurasia plans to evaluate drivers through a test program before finalizing its lineup for the 2019-20 Asian LMS campaign later this year.

“We are excited to be bringing our Le Mans Ligier home to Asia giving us and prospective drivers the chance to test in Asia for the first time with the latest LMP2 car,” said team principal Mark Goddard.

“Having a car at Sepang this early in the season is a real bonus for the region and I am sure the time we have for preparation for this season’s Asian Le Mans Series will stand us and our drivers in good stead for the coming season.”

Eurasia, which has been a mainstay in the Asian LMS since 2014, contested the 2017-18 series with an LMP3-class Ligier JS P3 Nissan driven by Nobuya Yamanaka and Aidan Read.
