The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup Virtual Edition is set to tackle its first season with a lineup of 31 drivers, featuring a number of Porsche factory pilots, kicking off this weekend at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

VIP entries driven by well-known professional racers will join the teams and drivers that have officially registered for this year’s real Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season.

The season, utilizing the iRacing platform, opens on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. EDT.

“The Supercup is the pinnacle of Porsche’s one-make cups. I’m delighted that we’ve managed to come up with a great alternative under the current circumstances with no real motor racing,” said Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup project manager Oliver Schwab.

“We have a top-class field and I’m very excited to see who’ll perform the best on a screen.”

Eleven Supercup teams will compete with a total of 22 full-time drivers, among them being Porsche Juniors Jaxon Evans with Momo Megatron Lechner Racing and Ayhancan Güven.

In addition to the starting grid that had been set to open its season in conjunction with Formula 1 at the Zandvoort Circuit in May, nine additional Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race cars will be entered by partners and sponsors featuring Porsche factory and Young Professional drivers.

Richard Lietz, Sven Mueller, Nick Tandy and Laurens Vanthoor will be at the helm of virtual Porsches fielded by App-Tech, Agility Management, ExxonMobil and TAG Heuer, respectively.

Porsche’s Formula E driver Andre Lotterer as well as test and development drivers Simona de Silvestro and Thomas Preining will also be present, with backing from ABB and Hugo Boss.

Additional guest entries include Porsche development driver Lars Kern, former Young Professional Matteo Cairoli, as well as Christian Engelhart and Fabienne Wohlwend.

The event will be broadcast via live streaming with commentary from ex-Supercup driver and current Eurosport commentator Jan Seyffarth.

Sport1 in Germany and Eurosport will also provide live coverage on their digital channels.

The 2020 virtual calendar will consist of four events, each with two 25-minute races, with rounds scheduled for Silverstone (April 18), Spa-Francorchamps (April 25) and Monza (May 16).
