Audi, Hyundai TCRs on Equal Compensation Weight for MRRA

The Audi and Hyundai TCR cars will be on equal compensation weight for the first time this season in Friday’s Fox Factory 120 at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.

Confirmed in a technical bulletin by IMSA on Monday, both the Audi RS 3 LMS TCR and Hyundai Veloster N TCR will carry 50 kg of additional weight, marking a 20 kg increase for the Audi since the second round of the doubleheader weekend at Mid-Ohio and a 10 kg decrease for the Hyundai.

It comes in the wake of a sweep of the Mid-Ohio weekend by the German manufacturer, with wins by FASTMD Racing with Speed Syndicate and Road Shagger Racing, which had ended Bryan Herta Autosport’s four-race win streak in class competition.

Multiple Balance of Performance adjustments have been made to the GS class ahead of the event as well, including a 25 kg weight increase for the Mercedes-AMG GT4.

Both the BMW M4 GT4 and McLaren 570S GT4, meanwhile, have been handed weight reductions of 25 kg and 15 kg, respectively with a number of cars undergoing changes in fuel capacity.

Twenty-two GS entries are on the entry list for Friday’s two-hour race, including the return of Automatic Racing’s two Aston Martin Vantage GT4s and M1 Racing’s McLaren, and debut of a LAP Motorsports-entered Mercedes GT4 for Dan Clarke and Anton Dias Perera.

As previously announced, Archangel Motorsports will debut its new Aston Martin GT4 after making the late-season switch from a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport.

Nico Bastian, meanwhile, will sub for Indy Dontje in the No. 4 Winward Racing Mercedes, with Dontje again on ADAC GT Masters duty this weekend. 

The 13-strong TCR entry features a number of notable returns, a pair of series debut and one withdrawal since the last rounds.

Atlanta Speedwerks will make its first start since the season-opener at Daytona with its pair of Honda Civic Type-R TCRs while the No. 73 LA Honda World Racing Honda of Mat Pombo and Mike LaMarra has returned after missing Mid-Ohio.

AOA Racing will make its series debut with an Audi TCR entry alongside the previously confirmed first outing for Copeland Motorsports.

One car that won’t be on the grid, however, is the No. 54 JDC-Miller Motorsports Audi, which has been withdrawn from the remainder of the season.

Track action gets underway on Thursday with a pair of practice sessions and qualifying in the evening.
