After winning in his team debut at Spa, Matteo Malucelli will return to the wheel of 8Star Motorsports’ Ferrari F458 Italia in this weekend’s FIA WEC Six Hours of the Circuit of The Americas.
Team owner Enzo Potolicchio confirmed to Sportscar365 late Monday the 28-year-old Italian will share driving duties of the orange-colored Prancing Horse with himself and Rui Aguas, rekindling the same lineup that claimed top GTE-Am class honors earlier this year in Belgium.
Malucelli will be one of three drivers now expected to pull double duty this weekend, as he’ll also be piloting Risi Competizione’s Ferrari in Saturday’s American Le Mans Series race.
Following their runner-up finish in Brazil, the AF Corse-run squad has moved to within two points of the lead in the WEC teams’ championship.
Potolicchio said Ferrari F1 test driver Davide Rigon, who drove for 8Star at Interlagos, will be in the car for the final three rounds of the season. Rigon was unavailable this weekend due to his commitments in the Blancpain Endurance Series, where he currently leads the Pro-Cup championship with one round to go.
