Gamble Completes GR Racing’s Porsche GTE-Am Lineup

Reigning European Le Mans Series LMP3 champion Tom Gamble will make his FIA World Endurance Championship debut this year driving for the GR Racing Porsche squad.

The 19-year-old Brit has been named alongside the returning Ben Barker and team owner Mike Wainwright for the British team’s GTE-Am campaign with a Porsche 911 RSR-19.

Barker and Wainwright, who placed ninth in the 2019-20 GTE-Am drivers’ standings, were confirmed as GR drivers again courtesy of the pre-season and Le Mans entry lists.

Their new co-driver Gamble captured the ELMS class title at his first attempt last year alongside his United Autosports Ligier teammates Wayne Boyd and Rob Wheldon.

He was subsequently promoted to United’s LMP2 driver lineup for the team’s defense of its title in the top ELMS prototype category in 2021.

Gamble will therefore combine his ELMS role with a full-time world championship drive for GR Racing, which is set to include his 24 Hours of Le Mans debut in August.

“I’m so grateful for the opportunity to compete in this season’s World Endurance Championship with GR in the Porsche,” he said.

“To race at Le Mans has always been a dream of mine so I can’t thank Mike Wainwright enough for the seat and EDGE Management for getting the deal across the line.

“I think with the combination of the team, car and driver lineup, we have a real chance to fight for some podiums this season.”

Gamble drove a D’station Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3 in the Asian Le Mans Series which was held in February.

He effectively takes up the GR Racing seat for a Silver-rated driver that was held by Andrew Watson for most of the 2019-20 season.

Watson was recently named as part of D’station Racing’s GTE-Am driver lineup for the Japanese squad’s maiden WEC campaign, opening the door for a new signing at GR.

“Tom is one of the most exciting young drivers around, he’s proven himself to be quick in everything he drives, there is no wonder he won the BRDC Young Driver of the year award,” said GR Racing team manager Owen Daley.

“Winning the ELMS LMP3 championship proved to us he was ready for the next step and we were delighted to be able to get him to join us for our WEC campaign.”

The GR Racing team, which has been a WEC regular for several years, ran as Gulf Racing until the end of last season following the end of its association with Gulf Oil.
