CAMERON: Staying Busy During Racing Downtime

Well, not much has happened since my last update after Bathurst and Daytona.

It’s a pretty weird feeling to have our races cancelled, rescheduled and postponed, but we are all in this together.

It’s what we all have to do to get on top of this virus. Here is what has been happening since I came home from Australia.

We had a great single day test with Acura Team Penske at Sebring in February to prepare for the race. I really felt like we learned some things that were going to make us very strong there, but we will have to wait until November to find out now!

One of my favorite parts of racing is the development and Acura Team Penske is always digging to make our Acura ARX-05s faster.

It is so much fun to experiment and find extra tenths. I really enjoyed being back in the car at one of my favorite tracks, even with a few near misses in turn one to keep things interesting.

Aside from that things have been pretty quiet, we’re keeping to ourselves at home for the most part aside from getting out on the bike for some rides now that spring is finally here in North Carolina.

I built a new bike around the same time that everything began and that has helped with motivation to get out and ride!

Disc brakes and electronic shifting is game changer for road bikes by the way. If you are on the fence, spring for electric shifting. Trust me!

Trying to keep my kids entertained and stop them from hurting each other is a full-time job in the new world of social distancing that’s for sure. But it has been really nice to enjoy some quiet time at home with the family after what felt like a very short off season and a busy run through January.

I am sure when we do get going again the schedule will be pretty hectic so I’m going to enjoy it while I can.

My oldest is a 5th grader so it looks like I’m a homeschool teacher now with schools being closed in North Carolina through May 15th.

I wasn’t the best student myself, usually daydreaming about racing, so we will see how this goes! Wish me luck as I wear out Google trying to figure out how to do 5th grade common core math

It has been pretty crazy to see the sudden boom in sim racing, but great to see the fans embrace it and everyone having a bit of fun with it.

Doing live interviews for two separate sim races in a day was something I never expected to do but here we are! Might be time to order some new gear and get involved, just don’t tell my wife…

In the meantime, stay safe everyone, wash your hands and stay home, hopefully we can be back on track soon.
