Cugliari Breaks Ruud’s TCX Win Streak at Road America

Stephen Cugliari ended Jacob Ruud’s seven-race win streak in Race 2 of the weekend for TC America powered by Skip Barber Racing School competition at Road America.

The driver of the No. 57 Accelerating Performance BMW M2 CS Cup car passed Ruud in Sunday’s 40-minute race to take victory over the Classic BMW driver for overall honors and in the TCX class.

It came after a flag-to-flag run for Ruud in Race 1 on Saturday.

Austen Smith (Auto Technic BMW M240iR) and Eric Powell (Skip Barber Racing School Honda Civic Type-R) earned TC class wins while Carter Fartuch swept the TCA weekend in his Skip Barber-run Honda Civic Si.

***Different Mercedes-AMG GT3s won during the second round of the German Gran Turismo Cup at a damp Assen. Reigning DTM Trophy champion Tim Heinemann won the opening bout in a car equipped with Schaeffler Paravan’s ‘Space Drive’ steer-by-wire technology. Race two went to Marvin Kirchhofer driving for the Neumann Racing team. Race 1 / Race 2 

***Niccolo Schiro and Luka Nurmi were the Trofeo Pirelli series winners in Ferrari Challenge Europe’s visit to an equally soggy Nürburgring GP circuit. Michelle Gatting finished on both 30-minute race podiums, taking a second and a third. Race 1 / Race 2

***A handful of sports car racing drivers took part in last weekend’s Karting4MND charity race at Thruxton which raised £10,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. The event was co-organized by Le Mans winner David Brabham and Bill Williams. Of note, the team involving Sam Bird and LMP3 ace Duncan Tappy finished second overall in the two-hour race.

***Former Bentley factory driver Seb Morris has been drafted into Leipert Motorsport’s lineup for the final two Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe rounds. Morris will team up with Sebastian Balthasar for next weekend’s Nürburgring races and the World Final at Misano.

***Ten GT3s are on the 33-car entry list for this weekend’s 24 Hours of Barcelona run by Creventic. IDEC Sport, Dinamic Motorsport, Kessel Racing and Rutronik Racing are among the teams signed up in the top category.
