Starworks Motorsport heads into this weekend’s GRAND-AM finale at Lime Rock Park with a new driver lineup for its No. 8 Riley-BMW, Sportscar365 has learned.
With both Brendon Hartley and Scott Mayer having previous commitments, the Peter Baron-led squad has drafted in Pierre Kaffer and Mike Hedlund for Saturday’s two-hour and 45-minute race.
Kaffer is no stranger to the No. 8 entry, having made a handful of starts this year, which included a podium finish at the Six Hours of The Glen.
Hedlund, meanwhile, will be making his Daytona Prototype debut. A regular in the American Le Mans Series GTC ranks with JDX Racing, the California-based driver has also made select Rolex Series GT starts with Extreme Speed Motorsports this year.
The No. 2 Starworks DP of Ryan Dalziel and Alex Popow will remain unchanged. The duo still has a mathematical chance of the championship, although having fallen back after finishing outside of the top-10 in the last two races.
Both Hartley and Mayer, who combined to win at Road America, were unable to take part in the Lime Rock weekend, according to Baron.
Hartley will be racing with Murphy Prototypes in this weekend’s European Le Mans Series race at Paul Ricard, while Mayer has previous business commitments.
