Billy Johnson led the way for Archangel Motorsports in the opening IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge practice session for this weekend’s Sahlen’s 120 at The Glen.

Johnson reeled off a best lap of 1:54.340 in the No. 88 Aston Martin Vantage GT4 he shares with Todd Coleman to edge out the No. 27 Lone Star Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4 of Scott Andrews by 0.027 seconds.

The No. 96 Turner Motorsports BMW M4 GT4 of Robby Foley was third in the 60-minute session on Thursday afternoon, followed by the No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes of Daniel Morad and the No. 95 Turner BMW, which completed the top-five.

TCR, meanwhile, was topped by the No. 17 Unitronic/JDC-Miller Motorsports Audi RS 3 LMS TCR thanks to a late flyer by Mikey Taylor.

The only incident in the session came at the halfway mark when the No. 99 VGRT Honda Civic Type-R TCR of Karl Wittmer stopped on track in Turn 5 and required a tow back to the garage.

Practice 2 is scheduled for 10:10 a.m. EDT on Friday, followed by qualifying at 3:35 p.m. in the afternoon. The two-hour Sahlen’s 120 at The Glen is scheduled for a 3:45 p.m. start on Saturday with live coverage on Peacock and IMSA Radio.
