The grid for Saturday’s IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge race at Virginia International Raceway will be set by championship points after adverse weather resulted in the cancellation of qualifying.

Rainfall in the early evening prevented the two 15-minute sessions for the GS and TCR classes from taking place, while all other sessions earlier in the day ran as planned.

The decision to use points to decide the grid means the No. 39 CarBahn with Peregrine Racing Audi R8 LMS GT4 will start from pole, sharing the front row with No. 82 Bimmerworld Racing BMW M4 GT4.

CarBahn drivers Jeff Westphal and Tyler McQuarrie currently hold a nine-point lead over Bimmerworld’s James Clay and Devin Jones at the top of the standings.

Row two of the grid will feature the Corey Fergus/Jesse Lazare Motorsports in Action McLaren 570S GT4 lining up ahead of the Park Place Motorsports Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport of Trent Hindman and Alan Brynjolfsson.

Jeff Mosing and Eric Foss will start from fifth position in their No. 56 Murillo Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4.

In the TCR category, Bryan Herta Autosport’s No. 98 Hyundai Veloster N TCR will start from pole for the third time this season, courtesy of its championship position.

Mark Wilkins and Michael Lewis had their points advantage cut back in the previous round at Road America, but they nonetheless arrived at VIR six points ahead of LA Honda World Racing’s Shelby Blackstock and Tom O’Gorman.

Row two of the TCR class grid will be occupied by the No. 21 Bryan Herta-run Hyundai of Harry Gottsacker and Mason Filippi, and the Roadshagger Racing by eEuroparts Audi RS3 LMS TCR of Gavin Ernstone and Jon Morley.

Saturday’s two-hour race is set to get underway at 2:15 p.m. ET.
