Scott Maxwell has claimed a record-breaking pole for Saturday’s Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Maxwell took his No. 15 Multimatic Motorsports Ford Shelby GT350R-C to a best lap of 1:27.574 in Friday’s 15-minute GS qualifying session.

The Toronto native edged out the No. 33 CJ Wilson Racing Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport of Danny Burkett by 0.194 seconds to score his 13th career pole — a new series record.

Maxwell and co-driver Billy Johnson will be looking for their second victory of the season, following a recent string of dominance from the Porsches, which have scored wins in the last three races.

The No. 76 C360R Ford of Paul Holton will start third in class, followed by the No. 12 Bodymotion Porsche of Cameron Cassels, the fourth and final GS car in this weekend’s race.

In ST, James Clay scored his second career pole, bouncing back from an engine issue to his No. 84 BimmerWorld BMW 328i in the morning.

Clay reeled off a quick lap of 1:33.048 to edge out the No. 25 Freedom Autosport Mazda MX-5 of Chad McCumbee by 0.116 seconds.

He’ll share the BMW with Tyler Cooke on Saturday.

McCumbee’s time came late in the session, which bumped the two HART Honda Civic Si cars to third and fourth in class.

The No. 43 MINI JCW of Derek Jones completed the top-five, less than three-tenths off Clay’s pole-winning lap.

The two-hour and 30-minute race gets underway Saturday at 12:25 p.m. ET.
