While the Audi S3’s debut will no doubt generate a lot of attention for the Sebring round of the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge season next weekend, it’s not the only new car joining the ST class.

MINI also returns to the category, with LAP Motorsports LLC fielding the No. 37 MINI Cooper John Works Team entry.

The manufacturer was involved from 2001 through 2012 in ST, and posted its most recent win in 2011 at New Jersey Motorsports Park with Sarah Cattaneo and Owen Trinkler.

The Luis Perocarpi-led team will run at least one car with hopes of two at Sebring. Drivers are still to be determined.

“Our official title is the MINI John Cooper Works Team, MINI is our main sponsor,” Perocarpi said. “We are still in the process of talking to several drivers, and we hope to have some potential additional sponsors coming on board for Sebring.

“We are flat out. We are almost finished building the first car, and the second car is a couple of days behind. We’ll be finishing up just in time for load-in for Sebring. We’ll have one car for sure, but hope to have two cars there.”
