Kenny Murillo will start Saturday’s Canadian Tire Motorsport Park 120 from the pole after recording a late flying lap in qualifying for the sixth round of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season.
Murillo reeled off a 1:22.735 lap time in the No. 72 Murillo Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4 to outpace series debutant Damian Fineschi in the No. 14 Riley Motorsports Toyota GR Supra GT4 by 0.074 seconds.
GS qualifying came to an early end due to an accident by Dillon Machavern in the No. 95 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT4.
The No. 56 Murillo Mercedes qualified third in the hands of Marc Miller, who is the team’s second substitute driver of the season.
Alan Brynjolfsson was fourth in the No. 7 VOLT Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT4, with Machavern credited unofficially with the fifth quickest time.
TCR pole honors went to the No. 77 Bryan Herta Autosport Hyundai Elantra N TCR of Tyler Maxson, thanks to a 1:24.318 by the teenager.
Maxson edged out the No. 17 Unitronic by JDC-Miller Motorsports Audi RS 3 LMS TCR of Chris Miller by 0.118 seconds.
Parker Chase put two BHA Hyundais in the top-three in his No. 98 entry.
Of note, the Watkins Glen-winning No. 33 BHA Hyundai, featuring Robert Wickens, was one of two TCR cars not to set a qualifying lap.
Wickens later announced on social media that his wife gave birth to their first child and was not at the track today.
The Canadian Tire Motorsport Park 120 gets underway Saturday at 3:05 p.m. ET with live coverage on Peacock and IMSA.tv.
