Action Express Racing will head into next year’s TUDOR United SportsCar Championship season with notable personnel changes, as the team expands into a two-car full-season effort in the Prototype class.
The reigning Prototype champions announced Tuesday the hiring of Chris Mitchum as director of race team operations, while mechanic Chad Gordon has been promoted to crew chief for the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Corvette DP.
Gordon’s promotion comes as the team’s veteran crew chief, Keith Johnson, retires from racing. He had been the longest running crew member for the team, dating back to Brumos Racing some 13 years ago.
Joao Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi will return to the wheel of the No. 5 Corvette DP to defend their 2014 title, while Dane Cameron and Eric Curran will pilot the No. 31 entry, which has been absorbed under the team’s umbrella.
