Newly-formed GT Daytona team AIM Vasser Sullivan has signed Jack Hawksworth for its debut IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season next year.

The former IndyCar driver, who raced with the 3GT Racing Lexus squad in 2018, will drive one of the two AVS-entered Lexus RC F GT3s in a full-season program.

AVS, which is a partnership between AIM Autosport and IndyCar team owners Jimmy Vasser and James Sullivan, was announced as the new operator of the Lexus GTD program last month.

“Having Jack join us is an important step in accelerating the learning curve for all of us at AVS,” said team co-owner and lead engineer Ian Willis.

“The Lexus RC F GT3 is a new platform for us and Jack has proven that he understands the car and knows what it takes to put us in the winner’s circle.”

Hawksworth took four pole positions in GTD this season – more than any other driver – and also set five fastest laps.

The 27-year-old Englishman joined the GTD last year off the back of a four-year spell in the IndyCar Series with Bryan Herta Autosport and AJ Foyt Enterprises.

“I am delighted and excited to be joining the AIM Vasser Sullivan racing team for the upcoming IMSA season,” Hawksworth said,

“I have spent the last two seasons driving the Lexus RC F GT3 car and look forward to continuing the push forward in the quest to win the big races and a championship with the AVS team and Lexus.

“I look forward to beginning preparations with the team over the coming weeks and months so that we can be ready for the challenge come January.

“Thank you to AVS for putting their faith in me and to everybody at Lexus for their continued support.”

AVS confirmed that additional lineup announcements will be made in the “very near future” following a high amount of interest from professional and amateur drivers.
