Alex Brundle Joins Muscle Milk for Rolex 24

Alex Brundle will make his debut on the high banks of Daytona International Speedway, having joined Muscle Milk Pickett Racing for the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship season-opener.

Sportscar365 has learned that the 23-year-old Brit, who finished runner-up in the FIA World Endurance Championship with OAK Racing in 2013, will pilot the No. 6 ORECA 03 Nissan with full-season drivers Lucas Luhr and Klaus Graf.

Muscle Milk-backed driver Tom Dyer will also join the trio for this weekend’s Roar Before the Rolex 24 test.

Brundle said the deal to put him in the car came through Nissan’s director of global motorsports, Darren Cox, who was instrumental in helping the second-generation driver make his long-awaited first start on the 3.56-mile oval/road course.

“The place is mega,” Brundle said after arriving at Daytona International Speedway Thursday morning. “I didn’t really quite clock the scale of the place, probably because I’ve never been to an oval circuit before, other than Rockingham in the U.K. The scale of this place is incredible. I can’t wait to get it out there, really.”

While having driven Nissan-powered prototypes for the past two seasons, this weekend’s Roar Before the Rolex 24 will mark his first laps in an Oreca 03, having previously driven Morgan and Zytek P2 cars.

“It’s another experience and another car,” he said. “It all adds to the body and wealth of the experience you have, which is really important.

“At the moment, I’m just here for the Daytona 24 and nothing else. But I’ll see how it all pans out.”

Muscle Milk’s plans to field a PC car, meanwhile, have been put on hold due to the car not having been given a guaranteed full-season entry.
