While P2 cars topped the time charts in opening practice, it was a pair of Corvette DPs that led the way in Thursday’s second practice at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Brickyard Grand Prix.
Joao Barbosa reeled off a 1:18.322 to go quickest in the 60-minute session, outpacing Ryan Dalziel’s 1:18.349 set in the morning.
The Portuguese driver edged out the No. 90 Spirit of Daytona entry of Richard Westbrook by 0.070 seconds, with Johannes van Overbeek third in the session with a 1:18.926.
Marsh Racing’s Corvette DP has continued to make improvements, with Eric Curran going fourth late in the session, bumping the No. 42 OAK Racing Morgan-Nissan of Gustavo Yacaman to fifth.
Dalziel’s day took a turn for the worse when he was hit by the No. 88 BAR1 Motorsports Oreca FLM09 of Bielefeld, causing damage to the rear-end of the No. 1 ESM HPD ARX-03b.
The ESM car did not return to action following the incident with 15 minutes remaining in the session.
