Tom Blomqvist led an Acura Meyer Shank Racing 1-2 in final practice prior to qualifying for Sunday’s TireRack Battle on the Bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Blomqvist, in the No. 60 Acura ARX-06, recorded a best lap of 1:15.398 in the 90-minute session, outpacing teammate Nick Yelloly’s No. 93 machine by 0.279 seconds.
The late session improvement by the No. 60 Acura bumped the No. 7 Penske Porsche 963 of Julien Andlauer to third.
GTP points leader Jack Aitken and Cadillac teammate Louis Deletraz completed the top-five in their No. 31 Action Express Racing and No. 40 Wayne Taylor Racing entries, respectively.
LMP2 was again led by the No. 43 Inter Europol Competition Oreca 07 Gibson of Tom Dillmann, while Danny Formal ran the quickest time out of the entire GT field in his GTD class No. 45 WTR Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2.
Formal’s 1:23.240 lap time was 0.282 seconds quicker than the No. 34 Conquest Racing Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo of Lorenzo Patrese.
The No. 3 Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R of Antonio Garcia was third and quickest of the GTD Pro competitors.
There was an early red flag after the No. 22 United Autosports Oreca of Paul di Resta spun into the Turn 2 gravel trap, just as teammate Phil Fayer spun his No. 2 car in Turn 1.
Trouble continued to strike DragonSpeed, which went behind the wall with suspension issues to its Corvette, less than 24 hours after missing opening practice due to a gearbox change.
Casper Stevenson, however, set the sixth quickest time within the production-based ranks.
Dillmann and the No. 8 Tower Motorsport Oreca of John Farano, meanwhile, came together in the closing moments of the session, although both continued on-track.
The Frenchman was given incident responsibility, a warning, for the collision.
Qualifying is on tap for 5:05 p.m. EST with live coverage on Peacock and IMSA’s YouTube channel.
