Blomqvist Storms to CTMP Pole

Tom Blomqvist has scored pole for Sunday’s Chevrolet Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, in another all-Acura front row lockout.

Blomqvist reeled off a best lap of 1:04.394 in his No. 60 Meyer Shank Racing Acura ARX-05 to edge out the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing entry of Ricky Taylor by 0.068 seconds.

It marked his second consecutive IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship pole.

Tristan Vautier took the No. 5 JDC-Miller Motorsports Cadillac DPi-V.R to the third best time, ahead of Alex Lynn’s No. 02 Chip Ganassi Racing Cadillac in fourth.

Olivier Pla was fifth quickest in the No. 31 Action Express Racing Cadillac, meanwhile.

A spin by Sebastien Bourdais saw the Frenchman unable recover, having set the sixth quickest time in DPi in his No. 01 CGR Cadillac.

LMP3 pole honors went to Jarett Andretti in the No. 36 Andretti Autosport Ligier JS P320 Nissan. 

Andretti’s 1:13.102 lap time edged out the No. 74 Riley Motorsports Ligier of Gar Robinson by 0.072 seconds in a session-long duel between the two drivers.

Jr III Racing’s Ari Balogh will start third in class, meanwhile.

Jaminet Gives Pfaff GTD Pro Pole on Team’s Home Soil

Mathieu Jaminet gave Pfaff Motorsports top pole honors in GTD Pro, while Frankie Montecalvo will start up front in GTD aboard his No. 12 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3.

Jaminet recorded a best lap of 1:15:468 in the No. 9 Porsche 911 GT3 R to edge out GTD pole-sitter Montecalvo by 0.165 seconds.

It was the second pole of the season for the Canadian squad, which lead the GTD Pro class standings entering Sunday’s two-hour and 40-minute race.

Alex Riberas qualified third among the GTD cars and second in GTD pro in the No. 23 The Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3, followed by the No. 25 Team RLL BMW M4 GT3 of John Edwards.

Four GTD Pro entries occupied the top-five, with Jordan Taylor slotting in fifth in the No. 3 Chevrolet Corvette C8.R GTD.

The Heart of Racing’s Roman De Angelis ended up second in GTD, followed by WeatherTech Sprint Cup points leader Madison Snow of Paul Miller Racing.

The No. 14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus returned to action following Ben Barnicoat’s accident in final practice. The Englishman qualified fifth in class.

The Chevrolet Grand Prix gets underway Sunday at 3 p.m. ET with live coverage on NBC and Peacock.
