BMW’s Vanthoor Quickest in Final Detroit Practice

Dries Vanthoor was quickest in the final 20-minute practice sessions prior to the start of this afternoon’s Chevrolet Detroit Sports Car Classic.

The Belgian, in the No. 24 Team WRT BMW M Hybrid V8, recorded a best lap of 1:06.9850 in the 20-minute warmup session, outpacing the No. 7 Penske Porsche 96 of Felipe Nasr by 0.431 seconds.

Vanthoor’s time was some 1.5 seconds slower than Earl Bamber’s record-breaking pole lap.

Jordan Taylor was third in the No. 40 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac V-Series.R, while Laurens Vanthoor, in the repaired No. 6 Penske Porsche, was third quickest.

The team worked until 12:30 a.m. rebuilding the car following the Kevin Estre’s accident in qualifying.

A replacement tub was not needed per a Porsche spokesperson.

Ricky Tay;or completed the top-five in the No. 10 WTR Cadillac.

Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports driver Nicky Catsburg edged out a late-session improvement from Lamborghini factory driver Andrea Caldarelli to go quickest in GTD Pro.

The Chevrolet Detroit Sports Car Classic gets underway at 4:10 p.m. EST with live coverage on network NBC and Peaocck, as well as IMSA’s YouTube channel internationally.
