Matt Campbell topped the time charts to go quickest overall in the second and final day of GTP and LMP2 testing as the IMSA-sanctioned test at Sebring International Raceway wrapped up.
The Australian in the No. 6 Penske Porsche 963 reeled off a chart-topping 1:48.215 lap time in Thursday’s morning session at the Florida airfield circuit, ending up 0.361 seconds quicker than the No. 40 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac V-Series.R of Louis Deletraz.
The Rolex 24 at Daytona-winning No. 7 Penske Porsche of Felipe Nasr was third quickest, in a time that was also set in the morning.
Campbell’s time was some two-tenths quicker than co-driver Mathieu Jaminet, who was quickest on the opening day of prototype track action.
Both Scott McLaughlin and Josef Newgarden got seat time in the Penske Porsches on Thursday, with the Kiwi setting a best lap time of 1:49.453 and Newgarden clocking in with a 1:50.334 time.
The No. 31 Action Express Cadillac and No. 60 Meyer Shank Racing Acura ARX-06 completed the combined top-five with drivers Jack Aitken and Scott Dixon, respectively.
Heart of Racing’s Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR-LMH, which is set for its WeatherTech SportsCar Championship debut at Sebring next month, was the slowest of the ten GTP cars that took to the track on Thursday.
LMP2 was led by the No. 22 United Autosports Oreca 07 Gibson of Paul di Resta, thanks to a 1:49.957 lap time that was just 0.042 seconds quicker than Bijoy Garg in the No. 43 Inter Europol Competition entry.
A total of 19 prototypes turned laps over the day’s two sessions, with the No. 63 Lamborghini SC63 squad having packed up early after issues encountered with the GTP car on Wednesday.
