Castroneves Quickest; Hardwick Crashes in Practice 3 at CTMP

Helio Castroneves jumped to the top of the time sheets in the final practice prior to qualifying for Sunday’s Mobil 1 Sportscar Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

The Brazilian laid down a 1:05.632 lap time in the No. 7 Team Penske Acura ARX-05 early in the session, outpacing Friday’s pace-setting No. 54 CORE autosport Nissan DPi of Colin Braun by 0.152 seconds.

Jonathan Bomarito was third quickest in the No. 55 Team Joest Mazda RT24-P, followed by Pipo Derani in theNo. 31 Whelen Engineering Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R.

Bomarito’s teammate Tristan Nunez completed the top-five in the No. 77 Mazda DPi.

Ryan Briscoe led the way in GT Le Mans in the No. 67 Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GT, while Robby Foley posted the quickest time in GT Daytona for Turner Motorsport.

The No. 38 Performance Tech Motorsports Oreca 07 Gibson of Kyle Masson, meanwhile, was again out front in LMP2.

The session was halted early for a heavy accident by Ryan Hardwick in the No. 48 Paul Miller Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo, which clobbered the wall in Turn 2.

Hardwick climbed from the car under his own power, although significant damage was sustained to the car.

Qualifying is set to get underway at 11:35 a.m. EDT.
