Gabby Chaves has been added to Panoz DeltaWing Racing’s lineup for this weekend’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen, joining regular-season pilots Katherine Legge and Sean Rayhall for the third round of the Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup.
The 22-year-old Colombian will make his first start in the DeltaWing DWC13 Elan since last year’s Rolex 24 at Daytona, after a decision to go with a three-driver lineup on the newly repaved Watkins Glen International.
“It was pretty clear straight away that we would need to add a third driver to the lineup as it was so physically demanding that even doing one full stint was going to take a toll on the drivers,” team manager Tim Keene said.
The team, which tested at Watkins Glen last month, is coming off a recent test at Road Atlanta to evaluate new components and for Chaves to re-familiarize himself with the Prototype entry.
“I’m really excited and looking forward to joining the team once again,” Chaves said.
“The car has looked extremely competitive with all the development over the last year, and I can’t wait to see what we can do in the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen.
“I really believe the car, drivers and crew can pull off the win.”
The team makes its IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship return after missing the Detroit round last month.
