Mike Conway put the No. 31 Whelen Engineering-sponsored Cadillac DPi-V.R at the top of the time charts in the second Roar Before the Rolex 24 session for Action Express Racing, fending off a late challenge by Juan Pablo Montoya in the Meyer Shank Racing Acura ARX-05.

Conway’s time of 1:36.225 was around one second slower than teammate Kamui Kobayashi’s best from Session 1 set in the team’s sister No. 48 entry, which remained the fastest lap of the day.

Montoya’s late flier put his MSR team within 0.006 seconds of the top time of Session 2 in the team’s first extended running since returning to prototype machinery.

Scott Dixon was third fastest in Chip Ganassi Racing’s No. 01 Cadillac, while Alexander Rossi and Loic Duval completed the top five for Wayne Taylor Racing and JDC-Miller Motorsports, respectively.

Racing Team Nederland impressed after missing Session 1 due to shipping delays, making it on track in Session 2 and setting the fastest time with driver Giedo van der Garde.

The Dutch driver’s time of 1:37.991 in the No. 29 Oreca 07 Gibson was 0.064 seconds clear of second place Mikkel Jensen of PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports.

Muehlner Motorsports again was fastest in LMP3 thanks to a strong lap from Moritz Kranz. His No. 6 Duqueine D08 Nissan checked in 0.723 seconds clear of Joao Barbosa in the No. 33 Sean Creech Motorsports Ligier JS P320 Nissan.

The top two cars in GT Le Mans split the top two from LMP3, led by Alexander Sims in the No. 4 Chevrolet Corvette C8.R.

Augusto Farfus placed the No. 24 BMW M8 GTE in the second spot, followed by Jules Gounon in the No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GTE Evo.

Sims’ performance was especially impressive as the No. 4 entry was forced to miss the first session with a brake system issue.

GT Daytona saw the top six cars separated by less than three-tenths, led by the No. 63 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020 of Marcos Gomes.

Philip Ellis was second for Winward Racing, followed by fellow Mercedes-AMG runner Mikael Grenier of SunEnergy1 Racing.

The No. 111 GRT Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo that missed Session 1 made its debut in Session 2 and checked in with the seventh fastest time in the hands of Mirko Bortolotti.

The session ran without major incident. Practice resumes at 10:30 a.m. ET on Saturday.
