Corvette Racing topped the time sheets overall in a rain-soaked and incident-filled warmup for today’s Mobil 1 Sportscar Grand Prix.
The No. 3 Corvette C7.R of Jan Magnussen topped the time sheets in the 20-minute session, reeling off a 1:27.946 in his GT Le Mans class contender.
Magnussen’s time as 0.435 seconds quicker than teammate Tommy Milner, who was second.
GTLM cars swept the three quickest times overall, with the No. 93 SRT Motorsports Dodge Viper SRT GTS-R of Jonathan Bomarito third with a 1:28.767.
Jordan Taylor was the quickest of the Prototype class cars, pedaling his No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette DP to a best lap of 1:29.204.
GT Daytona was led by the No. 73 Park Place Motorsports Porsche of Patrick Lindsey, who led a Porsche 1-2-3 in class.
The session saw no fewer than four incidents. The No. 45 Flying Lizard Motorsports Audi R8 LMS of Nelson Canache brought out the first red flag after stopping on track.
Moments after the restart, John Edwards spun off and made impact into the Turn 8 barriers in his No. 56 BMW Team RLL BMW Z4 GTE.
John Pew, meanwhile, backed his No. 60 Michael Shank Racing Riley-Ford into the wall, while the No. 33 Riley Motorsports Viper GT3-R also spun.
Conditions are expected to improve throughout the day, which could result in a dry race.
The Mobil 1 Sportscar Grand Prix takes the green flag at 2:05 p.m. ET.
