Tequila Patron ESM’s Ryan Dalziel was quickest on Friday at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, with the Scot the only driver to break the 1:09 lap barrier in the opening day of track action for the Mobil 1 Sportscar Grand Prix.
Dalziel reeled off a 1:08.994 in the No. 2 Nissan Onroak DPi in the day’s second practice session, edging out the morning pace-setting No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R of Ricky Taylor by 0.059 seconds.
Pipo Derani posted the third quickest time of the day, although an issue with the right-rear wheel for co-driver Johannes van Overbeek forced van Overbeek to park the No. 22 Nissan on-track after a spin, which brought out a red flag.
Contact with the barriers for the No. 28 Alegra Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R of Michael de Quesada, meanwhile, brought the afternoon’s 60-minute session to an early end.
De Quesada climbed from the car under his own power, although significant damage was sustained to the side of the car.
Porsche GT Team ended the day 1-2 in the GT Le Mans class, led by the No. 912 Porsche 911 RSR of Laurens Vanthoor, who recorded a 1:14.753 lap time.
The Belgian’s time was more than six-tenths clear of the pair of BMW Team RLL BMW M6 GTLMs, which were third and fourth on the time sheets in the second session.
3GT Racing’s Sage Karam, meanwhile, was quickest in GT Daytona, thanks to a 1:17.135 lap time in the No. 14 Lexus RC F GT3, and marking the first session led by Lexus in GTD competition.
A third and final practice session is set for 9:20 a.m. ET, followed by qualifying, which gets underway at 12:05 p.m.
