Davison to Lead RWR Riley LMP2 Program for Endurance Cup

Open-wheel and sports car racing ace James Davison is set to lead Rick Ware Racing’s lineup in next month’s Rolex 24 at Daytona, in the team’s IMSA debut.

The 33-year-old Australian will join Cody Ware, Mark Kvamme and newly named Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Johnathan Hoggard at the wheel of the team’s ex-BAR1 Motorsports Riley Mk. 30 Gibson LMP2 car.

It is one of seven LMP2 cars confirmed on the entry list for the mandatory Roar Before the Rolex 24 test and the only non-Oreca chassis in the class.

Daytona will mark the veteran NASCAR squad’s WeatherTech SportsCar Championship debut after kicking of its foray into sports car racing last month with in the Asian Le Mans Series with a pair of Eurointernational-run Ligier JS P2s.

The team plans to complete the 2019-20 Asian LMS season as well as the entire Michelin Endurance Cup, with Davison, Kvamme and Ware confirmed in the Riley for the four-round North American championship.

“For the 2020 season, RWR will be racing in at least seven different countries around the world, as well as over 60 races between four different national touring series,” said team owner Rick Ware.

“We have incredible new partners, as well as sponsors that have been with the team for years, that we’ll be announcing, and can’t wait to head to Daytona next week to kick off the new year.”

In addition to the Rolex 24, Davison is slated to take part in next year’s Daytona 500 with the team.

Nineteen-year-old Hoggard, meanwhile, has been placed with the team’s LMP2 effort courtesy of winning the Sunoco Whelen Challenge.
