Louis Deletraz led a Cadillac sweep of the top three positions in opening practice for Sunday’s StubHub Monterey SportsCar Championship at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
The Swiss driver, aboard the No. 40 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac V-Series.R, was quickest in the 90-minute session, thanks to a 1:14.333 benchmark time.
Deletraz’s lap was 0.560 seconds quicker than teammate Filipe Albuquerque in the No. 10 WTR entry, with Jack Aitken third in the No. 31 Action Express Racing Cadillac.
The No. 6 Penske Porsche 963 of Kevin Estre, sporting an Apple throwback livery, was fourth quickest but nearly seven-tenths behind, with the Long Beach-winning No. 93 Meyer Shank Racing Acura ARX-06 completing the top-five in the hands of Renger van der Zande.
Laurin Heinrich set the sixth quickest time in the 2025-spec JDC-Miller Motorsports Porsche, ahead of Acura MSR’s Tom Blomqvist and the Heart of Racing Aston Martin Valkyrie and the No. 7 Porsche with Julien Andlauer.
The two Team WRT BMW M Hybrid V8s brought up the rear of the 11-car GTP field, 1.3 and 1.6 seconds off the pace of the leading Cadillac.
GTD Pro was led by the No. 3 Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R of Alexander Sims, thanks to a 1:22.113 lap time.
It was 0.043 seconds quicker than the No. 70 Inception Racing Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo of Frederik Schandorff, who led GTD and was second amongst the production-based ranks.
Albert Costa was second in GTD class, aboard his Conquest Racing Ferrari, followed by the No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.
The No. 4 Corvette of Nicky Catsburg was next up in fifth, and second quickest in class.
While several cars had off-course excursions, including all three Porsche 963s, there were no red flags during the session.
The second and final practice session of the weekend is scheduled for Saturday at 9:55 a.m. PST (12:55 p.m. EST).
