The early race pacesetters at the 54th Rolex 24 at Daytona, the DeltaWing, have crashed in the fourth hour in a two-car accident.
Chris Cumming was stranded in the middle of Turn 1 in the No. 8 Starworks Motorsport Oreca FLM09 for a period of time, before Andy Meyrick hit and launched the Prototype Challenge car into the air, while also sustaining nose damage to the DeltaWing coupe.
“That one particular lap, he couldn’t hear us,” DeltaWing race engineer Catherine Crawford told IMSA Radio immediately following the accident.
Meyrick got out of his car OK, while Cumming also reported to the Starworks team he was OK.
Bear with us while we work out the damage… will be back on as soon as we know the situation #Rolex24 @IMSALive
