Gavin Leads Rain-Soaked Practice 2

Oliver Gavin led the way in a rain-soaked second practice session for Saturday’s Michelin GT Challenge at Virginia International Raceway.

The No. 4 Chevrolet Corvette C8.R laid down a best lap of 2:03.700 late in the session, a time that ended up being more than six-tenths clear than the pair of Porsche 911 RSR-19s that paced Friday’s opening practice in the dry.

Only six of the 20 entries officially set times in the weather-impacted session, which featured a red flag period for track inspection due to deteriorating conditions around the 3.27-mile circuit.

The No. 14 AIM Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 of Aaron Telitz wound up quickest in GT Daytona, in one of only two class entries to set a time.

At least five GTD cars circulated in and out of the pits although trouble continued for the No. 44 GRT Magnus Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo of Andy Lally, which stopped on track to bring out a second red flag.

Qualifying is set to get underway at 5:35 p.m. ET.
